Serve with the Herd Fall '26

Looking for a way to give back to the Fargo-Moorhead community? Volunteer Network is hosting Serve with the Herd, a community service project day during the week of homecoming. Students can sign up for a minimum two-hour shift at local nonprofits like the Ronald McDonald House, Churches United, etc. Register for a shift below!

Check in with Volunteer Network staff before your shift at the Sandbox (located near Caribou Coffee) in the Memorial Union. If you are unable to check in before your shift on the day of the event, there will be early check-in at the Sandbox on Monday, September 28th, 1-3 PM. Free shirt and swag!

We will be creating a reusable grocery tote bags out of donated t-shirts for the Goods for the Herd Food Pantry.


Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley

A La Carte (making individual snacks), Cleaning/organizing, Outdoor cleanup.

Park in the RMHC parking lot, Warmer clothes to be able to be outside, clothes to be able to move around and clean in.



Emergency Food Pantry

Filling food baskets from a menu, pre-packing of items for baskets, sorting of donations, stocking of items, light cleaning

Car pooling is best as parking is limited on the street, parking lot is for customers. It is a warehouse setting so closed toe shoes are required. Layers are best to adjust to the temperature.



Great Plains Food Bank

Repacking produce, packing boxes, making "backpacks", or possibly food drive.

Carpool when possible, closed toe shoes, no food or drinks besides water with closed top.



GiGi's Playhouse, Down Syndrome Achievement Center Fargo

Helping staff prepare for our 5K fundraising event, administrative help, cleaning help, organizing help

There's a large parking lot right at the playhouse. Any clothing or shoes are fine.



Churches United

There will be a variety of tasks available at Micah's Mission, such as donation sorting, cleaning, and possible kitchen help.

Park on the west side of the building and car pool as much as possible due to having limited parking space. Come in through the main door on the North side. There is a button on the right side of the door that you will need to push to buzz in. Please wear closed shoes and comfy clothing that you don't mind getting dirty.



Haley’s Hope

We would love some property care, such as trim bushes, clean out rocks in planting areas, add dirt, plants if necessary. Is there supervision during these shifts or do we supervise and guide? For disposal, do we need to take care of any disposal?

We have lots of parking in our lot, on the street.



New Life Center- South Thrift Store

Sorting donations and assisting with general thrift store operations

Park on the West side of the store. Enter through the main store entrance and get in touch with a staff member. Wear close-toed shoes. A waiver needs to be signed beforehand.

Homeward Animal Shelter

Dishes, Laundry, Donation Sorting, Bagging Pet Pantry Food, Housekeeping

Volunteers will be working with bleach and disinfecting chemicals so wearing old clothes is recommended. Also closed-toed shoes with good tread are required. Work gloves are optional.



River Keepers

Get outside, enjoy a walk and help us reduce stormwater pollution going to the Red River! We’re looking for volunteers to mark drains with markers that say, “No Dumping, Drains to River” and distribute door hangers that explain the purpose of this project. The project raises awareness about stormwater pollution and its impact on the Red River. Grass clippings, oil leaking from cars, and trash are potential stormwater pollutants that can flow into the river untreated.



YWCA Cass Clay

3000 S University Dr, Fargo, ND 58103

Students will be helping with projects such as cleaning indoors and outdoors. Tasks may include, garage clean up, pulling weeds, picking up trash, cleaning in childcare, etc.

Students can park in the main parking lot and enter the building through the front door. Students will need to buzz the security buzzer to the right of the door and let staff know they are there to volunteer. Students should wear weather appropriate clothing and closed toe shoes that they don't mind getting dirty. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.



HIA Health

we would love to have help to clean up our outdoor furniture and clean up any litter on our campus and in our shelterbelt/ another wish is for a smaller amount of students to do an art project to decorate our hallways for the season
